This seminar will support your transition to college and introduce you to a topic in public health and health sciences. The first six weeks will provide foundational skills for students to thrive at UMass. The last seven weeks will focus on exploring the topic: The Science of Fitness for all Bodies through Pop Culture. This course provides students with the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the science of fitness for all bodies.

FYS-U-Thrive: Neurodiversity

This seminar will support your transition to college and introduce you to a topic in public health and health sciences. The first six weeks will provide foundational skills for students to thrive at UMass. The last seven weeks will focus on exploring the topic: Neurodiversity, Physical Activity & Star Wars. This course provides students with the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the neurodiverse within the field of public health (with a special emphasis on autism spectrum disorder).

FYS-U-Thrive: Health & Society

This seminar will support your transition to college and introduce you to a topic in public health and health sciences. The first six weeks will provide foundational skills for students to thrive at UMass. The last seven weeks will focus on exploring the topic: Connecting Health and Society. What does it mean to be a part of a broader community, and what can we ask of our neighbors when we need them to protect our health? Where are the lines between individual responsibility and the community?

FYS-UThrive:Sleep&PhysAct/Life

This seminar will support your transition to college and introduce you to a topic in public health and health sciences. The first six weeks will provide foundational skills for students to thrive at UMass. The last seven weeks will focus on exploring the topic: Sleep and Physical Activity Across the Lifespan. Sleep and physical activity are associated with numerous health outcomes. It is concerning that sleep and activity patterns are often compromised in aging. College is a particularly important time for establishing healthy behaviors.

FYS-UThrive:Leadership&Health

This seminar will support your transition to college and introduce you to a topic in public health and health sciences. The first six weeks will provide foundational skills for students to thrive at UMass. The last seven weeks will focus on exploring the topic: Leadership and Health. What does it mean to be a leader? What does it take to become a leader? This course will cover features of leadership that are important for success in your professional life, and will discuss how leadership skills shape the responses that individuals, organizations, and nations can use to influence health.

FYS- U-Thrive: Health in Gen-Z

This seminar will support your transition to college and introduce you to a topic in public health and health sciences. The first six weeks will provide foundational skills for students to thrive at UMass. The last seven weeks will focus on exploring the topic: Health in Gen-Z. Health is defined as "a complete state of physical, mental and social well-being" by the World Health Organization. This seminar will examine these three components of health in today's young adult generation. This seminar explores questions such as: How is social media impacting social well-being?
