Wildlife Reproduction

This course explores comparative reproductive biology in wildlife and domesticated animals. Topics will include: conservation techniques to solve problems of environmental change and international development; human-wildlife conflict; reproductive cycles in wild animals; reproductive technologies; pharmacological and physical restraint; capture methods and transport. Management of wildlife in national parks, game reserves and zoos.

Canine & Equine Rehabilitation

Application of physical therapy principles and non-invasive techniques for the rehabilitation of injuries in canine and equine species. Rehabilitation techniques discussed include stretching; massage; stimulation by use of low-level lasers, electrical sources, magnetic fields and ultrasound; rehabilitative and conditioning exercises; hydrotherapy; and applications of heat and cold. Students will work with live canine and equine patients, developing and implementing rehabilitation treatment plans and protocols.

P-Community Veterinary Clinic

This course consists of rotations in the Community Clinic on the Mount Ida Campus of UMass Amherst. The Community Clinic provides basic veterinary care for economically disadvantaged pet-owners and other under-served populations in Massachusetts. This experiential service-learning course provide students who have completed the pertinent preparatory clinical coursework with practical exam room experience prior to the onset of their senior year internship rotations.

P- Peer Advisors

Students will receive training in department curriculum, academic procedures and policies, academic enrichment, non-academic resources, referrals for personal concerns and emergencies, and record keeping/Navigate. The students will then serve as VASCI Peer Advisors with weekly drop-in office hours to provide support, information, mentoring, and a sense of community for other undergraduate majors in VASCI.
