ST-Adv Swahili/Human Rights

This is a course in advanced Swahili speaking, listening, reading and writing. The content of the course focuses on human rights policies in East African countries. Students develop skills in describing and narrating in detail, expressing opinions, giving reasons for opinions, and cross-cultural communication. Students develop vocabulary necessary to discuss economic, political, and social-cultural topics in Swahili.

ST- Swedish I

Swedish I is the first part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Swedish. The course is offered through the Five College Supervised Independent Language Program. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Swedish develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in Sweden and to support course work in European or Scandinavian Studies.

ST- Advanced ASL B

Advanced American Sign Language B builds on skills developed in ASL I-IV and Advanced ASL A to enhance students' advanced language skills. In this course, students will develop conversational skills for everyday discussions and informal and formal narratives. Students will enhance their ability to explain increasingly complex ideas to illustrate how things work and why things are the way they are. Students will also analyze ASL stories to boost comprehension and vocabulary.

ST-Topics/Adv Serbo-Croatian I

Topics in Advanced Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian focuses on developing advanced reading and speaking skills, expanding vocabulary, and improving the ability to describe/narrate in detail and support opinions. Topics are chosen in consultation with the program director. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in Bosnia, Croatia, Serbia, or Montenegro and to support course work in European Studies or Balkan Studies.

ST- Turkish Senior Research

Advanced Turkish Senior Research I is for students working on an advanced Turkish research project or thesis. Students develop skills in describing and narrating in detail, expressing opinions, giving reasons for opinions, and cross-cultural communication. Students develop vocabulary necessary to discuss and write about their chosen topic in Turkish.

ST-Swahili Senior Research II

Advanced Swahili Senior Research II is for students working on an advanced Swahili research project or thesis. Students develop skills in describing and narrating in detail, expressing opinions, giving reasons for opinions, and cross-cultural communication. Students develop vocabulary necessary to discuss and write about their chosen topic in Swahili.

ST- Topics/Advanced Swahili II

Topics in Advanced Swahili II focuses on developing advanced reading and speaking skills, expanding vocabulary, and improving the ability to describe/narrate in detail and support opinions. Students studying Swahili develop speaking, listening, reading, writing, and cultural etiquette skills needed for study abroad in East Africa (especially Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda) and to support course work in African studies.

ST- Sinhala II

Sinhala II is the second part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Sinhala (Sinhalese). The course is offered through the Five College Supervised Independent Language Program. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Sinhala develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in Sri Lanka and to support course work in South Asian Studies.

ST-Sinhala I

ST-Serbo-Croatian VIII

Serbo-Croatian VIII (Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian VIII) is the fourth part of a four-part intermediate course sequence in Serbo-Croatian. The course is offered through the Five College Supervised Independent Language Program. The course format includes small group conversation sessions and individual tutorials. Students studying Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian develop speaking, listening, reading, writing, and cultural etiquette skills needed for study abroad in Bosnia, Croatia, Serbia, or Montenegro and to support course work in European Studies or Balkan Studies.
