The development of the visual arts in the major artistic centers of Italy during the 16th century, including Florence, Rome, Venice, Mantua, Ferrara, Parma, and Bologna. The lives and works of specific artists, such as Leonardo, Raphael, Titian, and Michelangelo.

Economic analysis of natural resource use and conservation. Includes analyses of the use of fuel, forest, marine and biodiversity resources. Focuses on evaluating natural resource use in terms of efficiency and sustainability, and designing regulations for correcting inefficient and unsustainable resource markets. Participants in the honors colloquium additionally complete a research project on the natural resource topic of their choice.

Is the humanistic drive at the heart of liberal thought, both celebrated and problematized by Edward Said, a fundamentally conservative impulse? What are the ethics of reading literature in the neoliberal age? And what is the relationship between ethics and affects? Approaching these questions in the spirit of Said's democratic humanism, this graduate seminar will explore ethical criticism ("From Leavis to Levinas") and adjacent concepts (e.g. cultural memory, perpetrator trauma, the liberal discourse of empathy) in the wake of histories of settler colonialism and racial capitalism.

In the course you will seek practical solutions to complex environmental problems by crossing traditional disciplinary boundaries and using an inquiry, cooperative learning-based approach. You'll learn how to integrate and apply knowledge from the four core areas of the ENVIRSCI curriculum. The main learning goals for this course are to gain in-depth experience in identifying tools and planning solutions for environmental challenges, and to explore how integrating your diverse educational experiences leads to new levels of understanding.
