Graduate students research and present one-hour seminar on a topic related to Environmental Health, and research a topic for a term paper.

The toxicological activity of toxic substances found in the general environment and in industrial settings. Topics include biochemical mechanisms for absorption, excretion, tissue distribution, metabolic transformations, and conjugations; comparative metabolism of animal species; special applications to the toxicology of heavy metals, pesticides, and other industrial chemicals.

Students in this course cover the required Adjustment Counselor content. In addition, the course enables students to conceptualize and apply a phased approach to school counseling.

Doctoral level seminar is designed to examine a range of sociocultural theoretical perspectives on the study of language. Goals will be to develop familiarity with several perspectives, to consider their similarities and differences and their usefulness in researching language in educational settings, and to practice applying one or more in the analysis of language data.

This course brings the rigorous study of educational inequality together with the tools of critical media analysis to explore representations and realities of inequality in schools with a focus on race, class, ability, gender, and sexuality. Students will also develop skills to teach for critical media literacy using critical pedagogical methods.

In this course, students will go behind the curtain of public education. Students will actively engage in making sense of the history, politics, promises and pitfalls of the US education system; a system in which most have participated in for 12+ years. Students will discover multiple and often competing purposes of schooling, examine important developments and trends in education using the latest available data, and consider the value of education in their own lives.

Introduction to the assumptions, language, logic, and methods of qualitative inquiry in educational settings. Students are required to conduct a small-scale qualitative research project.
