This course provides an introduction to statistical reasoning with a focus on educational contexts. You will learn how to reason from uncertain empirical data (as is often the case when dealing with school/classroom data) and how to apply this general and fundamental intellectual method in the social sciences. You will also learn how to use a variety of tools (SPSS, Excel, and TI-83 Plus) to perform data analysis on personal computers and to interpret and write results sections based on the analyses. (Gen. This course provides an overview of the fundamentals of using assessment data to make instructional planning decision that pre-service educators will need in their advanced coursework and classrooms.

This is a writing-intensive course that fulfills the University's Junior Writing requirement. The course will provide students with an opportunity to explore critical perspectives of early childhood education and serve as an introduction to the profession. Through the writing assignments, students will become acquainted with and practice writing required by professional teachers.

Students will be introduced to foundational philosophies and strategies for qualitative data analysis, coding their own data sets in weekly workshop and discussion settings. Strategies will be presented for setting up and organizing a database, coding and sorting data into categories, modifying and refining the scheme, aggregating data into larger themes or patterns, establishing audit trails, triangulating among data sources, participants and methodologies, and establishing trustworthiness of the data set.

This course focuses upon how researchers design, organize, and execute educational research using large secondary survey research databases, and how they document their findings for various audiences.

This course introduces students to school personnel and community organizations that special education teachers collaborate with. The focus is on understanding resources that support students with disabilities to be successful.
