French Speaking World

This course introduces the literatures of French-speaking countries outside Europe. Readings include tales, novels, plays, and poetry from Africa, the Caribbean, Canada, and other areas. Discussions and short papers examine the texts as literary works as well as keys to the understanding of varied cultures. Students will be asked to do formal oral and written presentations.

ST-Intro to Data Analysis in R

An introduction to data analysis in the open-source R language, with an emphasis on practical data work. Topics will include data wrangling, summary statistics, modeling, and visualization. Will also cover fundamental programming concepts including data types, functions, flow of control, and good programming practices. Intended for a broad range of students outside of computer science. Some familiarity with statistics is expected.

Adv Digital Forensic Systems

This course introduces students to the principal activities and state-of-the-art techniques involved in developing digital forensics systems. Topics covered may include: advanced file carving and reconstruction, forensic analysis of modern filesystems, network forensics, mobile device forensics, memory forensics, and anti-forensics. This course counts as a CS Elective toward the CS major (BA or BS).

Good & Evil

The imaginative representation of good and evil in Western and Eastern classics, folktales, children's stories, and 20th-century literature. Cross-cultural comparison of ethical approaches to moral problems such as the suffering of the innocent, the existence of evil, the development of a moral consciousness and social responsibility, and the role of faith in a broken world. Contemporary issues of nuclear war, holocaust, AIDS, abortion, marginal persons, anawim, unwanted children. (Gen.Ed. AL, DG)
