Ukrainian I is the first part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Ukrainian. The course is offered through the Five College Supervised Independent Language Program. Students studying Ukrainian develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in Ukraine and to support course work in Eastern European Studies.

In order to enroll in this course, students must have completed two semesters of Modern Standard Arabic at the 100-level or the equivalent. This course is appropriate for students who have had at least one year of Modern Standard Arabic that included a significant speaking component in either MSA or a dialect.

Students studying Amharic develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in Ethiopia and to support course work in African Studies.

Written Persian II is designed for students who have advanced fluency in spoken Persian but need to learn to read and write. The course is offered through the Five College Mentored Language Program. The course format includes individual tutorials. The course continues the review of Persian grammar and structure started in Written Persian I. By the end of the course, students should be able to read standard Persian and be able to compose simple texts such as dialogues, paragraphs, and letters in written Persian.

Moroccan Arabic II is offered in a special independent study format through the Five College Center for the Study of World Languages. The course develops speaking and listening skills in colloquial Moroccan Arabic. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions with a native speaker and a final evaluation by an outside evaluator. In order to enroll in this course, students must have completed Moroccan Arabic I or the equivalent.
