This class prepares teachers to understand the characteristics of students with behavior disabilities, to develop effective interventions, and to conduct a functional behavior assessment (FBA).

This course covers empirically validated instructional procedures in reading for students with mild/moderate disabilities. The focus will be on assessing, planning and implementing appropriate instructional procedures, and monitoring students? progress.

This class provides an over view of the research literature on treating childhood disorders in psychology.

Unlike some other scientific fields, we all have some naive understanding and conception about psychology, perhaps because we think we know ourselves quite well. For example, one without expertise in chemistry can only guess what happens if she mixes hydrogen peroxide with dishwashing detergent and yeast, but one without expertise in psychology may easily conclude that listening to music while studying boosts attention and therefore improves performance. However, much of what we believe to be true about ourselves and the human nature is very often false.

Infectious disease has many effects on the development of society, and likewise, human interactions affect the development of disease. Emerging and reemerging infectious disease is a contemporary global issue of great concern. We live in a time with very militant anti-vaccine movements and disease etiology denialists. This course examines these interactions with a focus on the role of race, class, and economic status in the development of epidemics.

This course introduces the applictions of economics to health and health care. The topics to be covered include: alloction of health care resources with respect to deman and supply of health care; the roles of hospitals physicians, and health insurance; market imperfections and their role in economics of health care.

Concepts of program evaluation and their application to the health field. Emphasis on theoretical concepts and their application to development of practical skills in program evaluation.

Review of recent developments in food science.

Writing of various types of reports dealing with scientific and technical information. Includes at least one oral presentation dealing with some aspect of food science. Selected exercises peer-reviewed before submission. Prerequisite: completion of freshman writing requirement.

This course offers a historical and political economy approach to the analysis of growth and structural transformation of African economies. It examines the challenges as well as opportunities facing African countries in their efforts to accelerate growth, reduce poverty and inequality, and maximize the gains from integration in the global economy. It takes stock of the record of the continent's growth and economic transformation, highlighting successes and lessons learned from past policy experimentation.
