Intrgp Dialg: Race/Racism U.S.

In a culturally and socially diverse society,;discussion about issues of difference, conflict;and community are needed to facilitate;understanding between social/cultural groups. In;this intergroup dialogue, students will actively;participate in two days (16 hours) of;semi-structured, face-to-face meetings with;students from other social identity groups.;Students will learn from each others';perspectives, read and discuss relevant reading;material, and explore their own and other groups';experiences in various social and institutional;contexts.

Journal Club/EnvirmentalHealth

This course examines current advances in environmental health science via critical reading and discussion of recently published peer-reviewed papers related to environmental health. Using the typical journal club format, the papers (and topics) discussed will change from week to week and will include topics such as pollution, exposure assessments, mechanistic toxicology, environmental epidemiology, and others.

Advanced R for Data Science

R has emerged as a preferred programming language in data science. This course covers topics in R programming to develop powerful, robust, and reusable data science tools. Main topics include data wrangling, visualization and modeling; advanced programming; constructing R packages with documentation and unit test functions. We will use base R and a range of R packages from the tidyverse family. Workflow in data science projects, reproducible research, and how to use Github for collaborative projects will also be discussed.

S-Adoption Seminar/Mentoring

The goal of this seminar is to provide education on current research on adoption and diverse family types. Students are required to participate in class discussions in which they will discuss issues and subjects relevant to the adoption literature. There is a required practicum component to this seminar in which students will serve as mentors to adopted children in the Adoption Mentoring Partnership.

PRODUCTION & MANAGEMENT

First-year MFA students enroll in this course to fulfill the graduate dance production requirement (usually stage managing a dance concert). Enrollment in DAN 507 takes place in the semester when the student completes the dance production assignment, as scheduled by the faculty.
