This First Year Seminar;explores American;political, cultural, and social life in the;postwar era, with an eye;toward helping students gain a firmer;understanding of contemporary;issues and conflicts in our nation and around the;world.

An introduction to algorithms for solving such problems as numerical integration and differentiation, root finding and optimization. Students will write computer programs to implement the algorithms. Students can choose the programming language and will be expected to have some elementary understanding of the language. MATLAB or Visual Basic are recommended.

This seminar will be a combination of hands-on projects and seminar paper reviews. We will discuss how to manipulate most -omics datasets and review papers relevant to the fields of bioinformatics and computational biology. This course may count as an Outside Elective for the BS-CS.
