Prerequisite: Secondary school chemistry and a grade of 23 or greater on Part A and 5 or greater on Part B of the math placement exam.

Multicltr Theater & Latino Exp

This course will examine the landscape of American theater and its relationship to the politics of diversity in the U.S. We will study the theater work of Latinos/as in the U.S. to broaden our understanding of multicultural theater. In addition to studying the dramatic texts, we will also consider the political implications of the work and its relationship to social activism. We will also look at theater companies whose primary missions are to produce Latino/a theater and the history of the representation of Latinos on stage in this country.

This is a practical, hands-on course which will help students identify their own interests, skills and values to create a personal career development path. Through this process, students will acquire the skills necessary to write a resume, CV, and cover letter; how to search for internships, labs and research opportunities; how to build a professional network using LinkedIn; interview; and gain other professional skills to succeed both in school and in the workplace post-graduation.

In Situ Testing Techniques

The theoretical and practical aspects of in situ tests in geotechnical engineering. Tests discussed include: Standard Penetration Test, Field Vane, Piezocone, Dilatometer, Pressuremeter, and Borehole Shear. Emphasis on use of in situ test results for determining engineering properties of soil for design. Corequisite: CE-ENGIN 620.

Concpt Energy Conversion

Current and future energy conversion problems, the latter involving the use of heavy oils, coal, oil shale, etc., as energy sources. Fundamentals of catalysis and relation of the application of these fundamental concepts to developing modern catalytic processes. Prerequisite: Senior standing or graduate standing in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry, or consent of instructor.
