A survey of Islamic thought in the 20th century. The encounter of Islam with the west, the reaction to colonialism and zionism; the development of Islamic modernism, socialism and revolutionism; readings from translated works of ideologies such as Afghani, Abduh, Khomeini, Qadhafi, Shariati, and Mawdudi.

Amer Pol Thought

Origin and evolution of political ideas and ideals that have shaped the American constitutional system. Tensions within and between liberalism and democracy and the impact of changing social and economic conditions on political beliefs and values. (Gen.Ed. HS)

Modern Arabic Literature

This course draws from the most celebrated works of Arabic literature spanning from the nineteenth century literary "Renaissance" (or "Nahda") to the revolutionary uprising of the "Arab Spring." Focusing on poetry and prose, students will survey the works of major literary pioneers after the mid-nineteenth century, to explore the nuances and controversies involved with asserting the advent of "modern" literary forms within the history of Arabic literature.

Business Policy and Strategy

This course is designed to be highly integrative in that students use knowledge and tools from all functional areas of business to develop a "whole organization" perspective. In addition, they integrate by examining these functions within the context of business and societal environments, such as the competitive, political/legal, socio-cultural, technological, and economic. Furthermore, they integrate and further develop general education knowledge and skills, such as written and oral communications in each course assignment.
