S- Peer Leaders

Students gain leadership experience through teaching a section of the first-year seminar to Isenberg School of Management students. TA meetings and assignments require students to be actively involved in developing their own teaching style and exploring various methods that will assist first-year students acquire the skills necessary for success in their professional careers.

Machine Learning (colloq)

Introduction to core machine learning models and algorithms for classification, regression, dimensionality reduction and clustering with a focus on real-world applications in a variety of computing contexts (desktop/cluster/cloud). Requires the use of Python. This course includes an honors colloquium with an exploration of the mathematical foundations of the machine learning algorithms presented in class. It will also include the presentation of more advanced models and algorithms.

ST-Global Environmentl History

This honors course will examine the impact that interactions between humans and the larger biophysical world have had on the global past. From the late 1400s, new encounters and unprecedentedly lengthy trade networks rapidly transformed the Old World Web into the World Wide Web. This process has greatly changed the way that nature and humankind interact on a local, regional, and global scale, greatly amplifying the impact that the two have upon one another. We will be asking three key questions: What role has the environment played in major global dynamics?

DataVisualization&Exploration

In this course, students will learn the fundamental algorithmic and design principles of visualizing and exploring complex data. The course will cover multiple aspects of data presentation including human perception and design theory; algorithms for exploring patterns in data such as topic modeling, clustering, and dimensionality reduction. A wide range of statistical graphics and information visualization techniques will be covered. We will explore numerical data, relational data, temporal data, spatial data, graphs and text. Hands-on projects will be based on Python or JavaScript with D3.

Rationale and structure of public policies that affect the operation of private markets in the U.S., with special emphasis on consumer goods industries. Focus on antitrust and competition policies (e.g., those covering collusive restraints of trade, monopolization, and mergers) and on policies that affect product quality and information (e.g., product standards, regulation of advertising and labeling). BS-ResEc majors can satisfy their Integrative Experience requirement by taking this course plus Res-Econ 394LI and 452.
