ST-Tutoring In Schools colloq
This colloq serves as a service learning and community engagement experience where students who are planning to become K-12 teachers have opportunities to understand the conditions that culturally and linguistically diverse students need to overcome in order to learn and succeed in school.
S-Adolescent Literature
Adolescent Literature is a graduate level class designed for pre-service and in-service teachers. Students will read different genres of Young Adult literature with an emphasis on contemporary and diverse authors. We will also read research on Young Adult literature and literary theory, as well as research on teaching adolescents reading and writing through the use of Young Adult literature. The focus will be on integrating theory and practice in the teaching and reading of Young Adult literature.
Introduction to Special Educ
This course is a study of the origin, diagnosis, and treatment of special needs children with an emphasis on learning, goal planning, and understanding their intellectual, social, physical and sensory needs.
ST-Creative Arts Young Child
Course examines the relationship of art and music to aspects of teaching and learning in other areas. There will be opportunities for students to use basic art media, including paint, clay, collage, and wood. Cultural differences in songs, dances, and the visual arts will be explored.
P- Counseling Pre-Practicum
Pre-practicum in School Counseling is designed to support the student in her/his first school placement, and to facilitate professional growth as a school counselor.
S-Discourse Analysis
This doctoral seminar is designed to support in-depth exploration of critical approaches to discourse analysis as a basis for research on language and literacy in educational settings.
Train For Non-Formal Ed
Skills needed to design and implement training programs for personnel in nonformal education, human services, and community development. Provides some direct experience in designing and conducting training exercises and assessing their outcomes. Emphasis given to non-classroom settings with cross-cultural components.
Classroom Assessment
The purpose of this course is to provide the student with an introduction to classroom assessment that includes a consideration of technical issues, as well as policy issues related to test use and misuse in American education. The ultimate goal of this course is to provide the student with a balance of both theory and its practical applications in the area of assessment. This class is not designed strictly for teachers; however, students who are education minors or who plan to become teachers will find this class useful.
