ST-Connections/Med, Bio, Engin

Fundamental principles of molecular biology and fluid dynamics as they relate to human physiology and disease, with a focus on the cardiovascular, lymphatic and pulmonary systems. The relationship between the forces applied by the blood to blood vessels and heart, lymph to lymphatic vessels and air to the pulmonary airways are explored via formal lectures and journal article discussions. The course will also cover various experimental systems used to quantify cell response to forces. Students will be introduced to concepts of scientific writing.

S-Public & Nonprofit Managemen

This course introduces students to leadership & management in the public and nonprofit sector. Students learn about the complex issues faced by public and nonprofit agencies and how these organizations solve them through effective leadership and management. Some of the concepts covered include leadership skills needed to solve complex problems, developing organizational culture to handle change, motivating employees to be productive, innovation and team building, and political issues faced by these organizations.

In this seminar, students will examine texts and works of art that have profoundly shaped the world we live in. The course is divided into four units: Models of Inquiry; the Impact of Science and Technology; Social Philosophy and Civic Engagement; and Art in the World. The course is supplemented with a plenary lecture by a distinguished honors faculty speaker.

ST-Propulsion Sys Performance

Propulsion systems including gas turbine engines, rocket engines, and internal combustion engines are analyzed. Fundamental thermodynamic and fluid dynamic analyses of the engines are conducted and performances of the components and overall system are calculated. Mechanical systems and design are also discussed.

Principles of American foreign policy with an emphasis on the historical, political, and administrative sources of contemporary policies. Analysis of the foreign policy-making process with specific reference to illustrative case studies. (Gen.Ed. SB)
