A detailed study of optimal control theory with applications to the biomechanics of human movement. Includes lectures, readings, discussions, programming assignments, and student projects.

This course prepares students to teach jazz combo, big band and improvisation in middle and high school. Students will learn the fundamentals of jazz performance, from instrumentation to setup to rehearsal techniques to concert planning. Additionally, students will learn the fundamentals of jazz improvisation, including jazz theory, ear training, scales, patterns and repertoire. By the end of the course students will have a reference binder that will cover all basic elements necessary to run a successful jazz program.

A student-driven course to help prepare for programming contests. Students must sign up in teams of 2-3. This course does not count toward computer science major or minor requirements.

An important course for landscape architects, planners, and other professionals interested in the cultural landscape, this course will introduce students to the identification, understanding, documentation and policy implications of cultural landscapes. While it will touch on the issues of both designed and vernacular landscapes, the focus of the course will be vernacular landscape.

Weekly lectures by guest artists and faculty, group discussions in residence halls and Fine Arts Center classrooms, attendance at Fine Arts Center Performing Arts Series events, Department of Music and Dance events, and University Museum of Contemporary Art exhibitions. Presents an international perspective emphasizing cultural and social diversity. Topics include elements and styles of Western European "classical" music; artistic expression of African-American culture in jazz; styles, choreography and production of dance; theater; photography and visual art.
