Haitian Creole for Heritage Speakers I is offered through the Five College Supervised Independent Language Program. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Haitian Creole develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in Haiti and to support course work in Caribbean and/or Francophone Studies. This course is an entry-level course for students who already have some basic speaking skills in Haitian Creole.

Amer Art in the Jazz Age

The American avant-garde in the period between the two world wars was both revolutionary and combative, determined to forge a radical style that was in tune with European innovations yet also clearly American.  This course will explore the achievement of such painters and photographers as Alfred Stieglitz, Georgia O’Keeffe, Edward Hopper, Ansel Adams, Aaron Douglas, and Stuart Davis against the background of more conservative movements of the era (e.g., American Impressionism, the colonial revival) as well as in light of the lively culture generated by bohemian writers, patrons,

Independent Study

For second year students. Does not satisfy the B.S. independent research project requirement. Experimental or theoretical study that may involve lab or library work or a combination. Work supervised by faculty sponsor who determines direction of project, nature of reports required, and grade and credit awarded. 3-4 hrs lab work per week per 1 unit is expected. This course cannot substitute for CHEM 388 or CHEM 499Y/T.

Practicum

Allows a student to work on an actual or demonstration project to explore aspects of landscape planning, design or processes related to landscape architecture.
