This course introduces students to inquiry, analysis, critical thinking, teamwork, and communication through career exploration. We will use David Kolb?s Experiential Learning Theory to understand how cognition, experience, experimentation, and reflection influence the learning process, and Donald Super?s Career Development Theory (1996) as the foundation for understanding that career development is a life-long process rather than an isolated decision. Topics will include exploration, challenging assumptions, research, and hands-on experience.

The curriculum covers the process of declaring a major (self-assessment, major and career exploration), as well as time management and essential skills. Students will learn how to navigate UMass requirements, opportunities, and resources.

How can AI help us as a society, change our way of life, or pose risks to the most vulnerable? In this seminar, we will delve into both the benefits and risks of generative AI, explore how the technology can be used ethically, and discover how these systems work and are likely to change in the near future.
