Animal Behavior

Shaped by millions of years of natural and sexual selection, animals have evolved myriad abilities to respond to their biotic and abiotic environment. This course examines animal behavior from both a mechanistic and a functional perspective. Drawing upon examples from a diverse range of taxa, we will discuss topics such as sensory ecology, behavioral genetics, behavioral endocrinology, behavioral ecology and sociobiology. Three classroom hours per week.


Requisite: BIOL 181. Limited to 14 students. Not open to first-year students. Professor Clotfelter.

STAT METH FOR UNDERGRAD RESEAR

Same as PSY 201. (Formerly MTH/PSY 190). An overview of the statistical methods needed for undergraduate research emphasizing methods for data collection, data description and statistical inference including an introduction to study design, confidence intervals, testing hypotheses, analysis of variance and regression analysis. Techniques for analyzing both quantitative and categorical data are discussed. Applications are emphasized, and students use SPSS and other statistical software for data analysis.
