S-Translation & Social Justice

This course will explore the role of translation and interpreting in the distribution of social justice within communities, nations and at the global level. It will consider issues such as the position of refugees, asylum seekers and foreign contract and domestic workers, as well as the question of which minority languages are selected for translation in multicultural societies, a decision that can underscore the relative power and significance of one migrant or minority culture in relation to another.

Org Of American Industry

A topical study of key industrial and technological developments in U.S. economic history. Focuses on the periods of transition leading to the ascendance of U.S. manufacturing power and the subsequent decline in U.S. manufacturing leadership in the growing globalized economy. Prerequisites: Econ 103 or RESECON 102 or ECON 104.

Intermediate Lab A

Modern and classic experiments performed with up-to-date techniques. Course complements 400-level physics courses, and satisfies the Integrative Experience requirement for BA-Physic and BS-Physic majors. Prerequisites: introductory physics with labs (PHYSIC 181-182, 283, 284, 285, 286, or equivalent), or consent of instructor.

S- French Art Song

Survey of the history of the French art song from the perspective of the vocalist and the collaborative pianist. Extensive study of vocal accompanying techniques with the practical experience of performing with vocal majors.

Organic Chem Lab

Experimental organic chemistry with emphasis on underlying physical principles. Separation and purification, synthesis, analysis, and identification of organic compounds, including spectroscopy. Microscale work predominates. Emphasis on safe laboratory practices and proper disposal of wastes. Prerequisite or co-requisite: CHEM 262 or 266.

ST-Post-SovietForeign&ScrtyPol

This course examines the foreign and security policy priorities guiding Russia, Ukraine and other countries of the post-Soviet space. Their strategic interests, security concerns, domestic core of foreign policy, and mechanisms of decision-making are expounded. The course elucidates the foreign policy making of the post-Soviet states in the light of interaction between the forces of globalization, regionalization, and nationalism.
