Orange is the new Black- 1

On NPR, Piper Kerman pointed out that networks and publishers needed a white protagonist to tell the tales of Black women, Latina women, and old women and criminals she discovered in prison. In this seminar, we will use OITNB as a launch pad to discuss white privilege and its impact on meaningful `social work,? that include but are not limited to education, development, community service learning, and notions of `wanting to give back? in general.

Human Nature

Introduces the full range of human cultural and biological diversity. Human evolution, rise and fall of civilizations, non-Western cultures, and the human condition in different societies today. Emphasis on the relationships among biological, environmental, and cultural factors. (Gen.Ed. SB, G)

S-CivilResistance&SocialChange

This course focus on what has sometimes been called "everyday forms of resistance," "quite encroachments," or political "lifestyles" and "subcultures." It applies sociological perspectives on the "resistance" that is played out in the "everyday life" of "ordinary" people: a resistance that might be widespread and diffused, individual or small scale, implicitly political, disguised or even hidden.

Seminar-ggplot2

ggplot2 is a plotting system within the R environment. This seminar we will briefly consider base graphics and lattice, and then get into ggplot2 for the rest of the it. Familiarity with, but not expertise in, R will be necessary.

RAP First-Year Seminar

Explores a variety of issues related to a Residential Academic Program (RAP) topic from both current and historical contexts. Students participate in small group projects and class discussions. Provides a supportive environment for personal reflection and critical thinking on the topics germane to the course content. Students will identify ways to incorporate personal interests with academic interests.
