This course will survey the historical, political, economic and socio-cultural realities that Black women in the Americas and the Caribbean have faced and continue to face. A variety of readings by and about Black women will highlight the ways in which race, class, and gender combine to operate in the lives of Black women. Special attention will be paid to Black women as laborers, Black women as political activists, and the various ways in which Black women in the Americas and the Caribbean experience race and gender.

Relevant forms of Black cultural expressions contributing to the shape and character of contemporary Black culture; the application of these in traditional Black writers. Includes: West African cultural patterns and the Black past; the transition-slavery, the culture of survival; the cultural patterns through literature; and Black perceptions versus white perceptions. This course exposes students to how core business concepts are implemented in real-world organizational settings. Key business processes covered include procurement (materials management), fulfillment (sales), and production (manufacturing). The class meets in a computer lab and enables hands-on experience, with instructor guidance, to the ERP solution from SAP, the world's largest business software company. Using the system's core modules and data warehouse, students will gain insight into online transaction processing (OLTP) and online analytical processing (OLAP).

Research methods in psychology including single subject and group experiments, case studies, psychological test construction and observational field techniques. Emphasis on hands-on experience in labs and on lab reports.

Survey with emphasis on the successful design of insects and their innovative features. Aspects of insect biology, including communication, defense, feeding, and mating behaviors. Social behavior with a focus on termite, ant, and honey bee societies. This course expands on skills learned in the introductory course. Students learn how to use basic implements such as plows and harrows and are exposed to professionals in horse-powered fields.

This three-credit course includes in-class lectures, field trips, design studio and a hands-on field component, to offer students a deepened practice in permaculture design process and techniques. The course culminates with students completing their own permaculture design for a site in the pioneer valley.

Overview of the ecological principles related to agricultural ecosystems, and to the ways these principles work in modern industrialized, traditional, and alternative agricultural systems. Students will evaluate the sustainability of agricultural ecosystems.

The purpose of this course is to introduce undergraduate students to the scientific method for research in plant science. Working in teams and with a team of instructors, students will design and carry out research projects, evaluate results and draw conclusions.
