ST-Media Ethics

In this course we will look at the ethical dilemmas those of us who are in-volved with mass media communication face on a regular basis. Students will learn various ways to evaluate ethical options, and various perspectives and factors to consider when making a deci-sion. Students will also learn how to debunk myths and stereotypes, and how to detect various types of bias that influence news coverage.

The Jewish People II

The life and history of the Jews in the medieval and modern worlds. Topics include Jewish-Christian relations; development of Jewish philosophy and mysticism; Jewish life in Eastern Europe; the Holocaust; State of Israel; Jews and Judaism in North America. (Gen.Ed. HS, G)

S-Reproductive & Genetic Tech

This course will focus on reproductive and genetic technologies (RGTs), tracing their emergence, routinization and contemporary forms. We will look at historical and current debates about the governance of RGTs, including prohibitions on access, restrictions on commercialization, and the use of gametes and embryos for research.

S-Feminist Health Politics

Health is about bodies, selves and politics. In this course we will explore a series of health topics from feminist perspectives. In what ways do axes of difference such as gender, sexuality, class, disability, and age influence the ways in which one perceives and experiences health and the access one has to health information and health care? What is meant by the phrases "social determinants of health" or "racial disparities in health"? Are homophopia or transphobia, or one's place of living, related to one's health status or one's health risk?

ST-Intermediate Korean

This course aims at the acquisition of language skills to read, write, listen and speak in intermediate-level Korean. It is designed for students who have taken Elementary Korean courses or proven to be at the equivalent level by the placement test.

ST-Beginning Korean I

This is an introductory Korean course, which is designed to help students acquire fundamental skills to read, write, listen and speak in elementary level Korean. Students will learn Korean writing system, Hangul, simple sentence patterns, and basic everyday conversations. By the end of the class, students will be able to carry a short conversation about people's backgrounds, likes and dislikes, attributes, as well as location, numbers and counters. Students will also be able to talk about present, past and future events in straightforward social situations.
