Engineering Geology

With lab. Interpretation of geology for the purpose of planning, siting, design, and construction of engineered facilities. Includes plate tectonics, mineral and rock identification, engineering geologic mapping, air photo interpretation, residual soils, glaciation, and engineering problems associated with geologic features. Prerequisite: CE-ENGIN 320.

Probability & Statistics in CE

This course will introduce the field of probability and statistics, and demonstrate its importance and utility in the solution of problems specifically of interest to civil and environmental engineering. Topics include statistical data reduction, concept of basic probability, sampling and inference, experimental design and data analysis, statistical methods in quality improvement, and statistical design theory. Prerequisite: MATH 132.

Master's Project

Research carried out and reported under supervision of student's adviser as partial fulfillment of requirements for Master's degree in civil engineering or Master's degree in environmental engineering. May not be taken by those taking CE-ENGIN 679 Engineering Report or CE-ENGIN 699 Master's Thesis.

Engineering Design Project

Team design of comprehensive civil engineering projects. Includes scheduling, economic factors, feasibility studies, consideration of alternative solutions, detailed analysis and design, and oral and written reports. Engineering ethics and professionalism are discussed. Satisfies the Integrative Experience requirement for BS-CE majors. Pre-requisites: CE-ENGIN 310, 320, 370, and 433 or 434.
