Statics

To give students a fundamental understanding of basic principles in engineering mechanics. Topics include force systems, the principle equilibrium of forces in two and three dimensional space, free-body diagram, centroid and moment of inertia of a solid body, etc. The fundamental principles are applied to solve problems of civil engineering systems, such as beam, truss and frame. Prerequisite: MATH 132. Corequisites: Physics 151 & 153.

S-Sports Strategic Communicatn

Examines the various channels for communication within the sport industry. The primary focus will be an analysis of the ways in which sport organizations communicate directly with their target markets as well as in-depth discussion of the mediated devices used to consume sporting products. Topics include: public relations, the uses of television, radio, and print media, the growth of the Internet, and new sport communication technologies. Furthermore, students will be charged with identifying future communication tools and assessing their potential impact on sport.

Sports Policy

Introduction to the analysis of strategic problems and decisions facing sport managers and leaders as well as ethical and implementation issues. This course for seniors integrates academic work from both General Education and major courses and satisfies the Integrative Experience requirement for SptMgt majors. [No credit after SPORTMGT 480.]

ST-Sports&Violence in America

Sports and Violence utilizes Smith's typology of Sports Violence and Syke's categories of Moral Worth to investigate supposed legitimate and instances of violence in and out of sport. Students will investigate the use of abusive practices by players, coaches and administrators as well as instances of self-abuse and preventive practices to lessen abuse.
