Students work as a committee to propagate permaculture in the region by planning, designing, and implementing new permaculture gardens on the UMass Amherst campus and in the local community.

This course will introduce students to the selection, operation, safety and maintenance of farm tractors and equipment. Lectures and hands-on experience with emphasis on farm machinery used to operate an equine facility.

Required of all students majoring in Equine Industries. Practical farm or related business experience in equine industries. Minimum of eight weeks of a working/learning experience as approved in advance by the program coordinator. Written report required. Stockbridge students only.

Advanced study of cardiovascular and respiratory responses during exercise. Acute and chronic responses to exercise thoroughly examined and mechanisms underlying these responses critically evaluated. Laboratory component includes assessment of VO2 max, lactate threshold, running economy. Prerequisite: Exercise Physiology with lab.
