Modern Dance V

Advanced study of modern dance technique. Topics include kinesthetic perception, efficient alignment, strength, flexibility, movement qualities, exploring new vocabularies and phrasing styles, and individual embodiment of movement material. Taught on two campuses each semester. Location rotates among Mount Holyoke, Smith, and the University. Placement in the course is by Five College audition.

ST-Pilates

This course is designed to teach pilates mat workout in the basic level. Students will be able to understand and apply basic "core" principles that Pilates is based upon dance, sports or any physical activity in daily life. Students must provide their own yoga mat and 6ft. heavy flex-band.

Rhythm Analysis:Dancers Prsptv

An overview of rhythm, harmony, and various musical styles as they relate to teaching dance, choreographing, and performing. Students will learn to read rhythmic notation, study and play a variety of percussion instruments, learn basics of tap dance, and engage in movement, vocal, and percussion improvisation. Some degree of previous dance training or experience is suggested as this course is geared towards but not limited to dance majors.
