Students will each submit a proposal for an independent project related to course themes to be approved by the professor and submit it before the end of the semester. They will have additional meetings throughout the term to workshop projects.
The Science of Thriving
In this course, we practice activities that build on individual strengths and foster social connections, to improve stress management and increase resilience. We will use reflective writing, sharing in small groups, mindfulness exercises, and insights from research to increase self-awareness, practice skills of responding to life's challenges, and facilitate growth in response to adversity. This course takes you on a journey of self-discovery, to find the stories that motivate you and to connect you with others on the same journey.
Professional Skills Essentials
This course is designed to accompany an internship experience (remote and/or in-person) and is available to students participating in an internship in the same semester. Experiential learning opportunities not only add value to a student's professional pursuits, but also serve as a vehicle for learning key professional skills such as teamwork, communication, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills. The class is intended to expand upon the internship experience through personal reflection, relevant readings, writing, group interactions, subject-matter expert speakers, and site visits.
Resilient Warrior
This course was created by Home Base and is designed to reduce the impact of stress through a variety of mind-body techniques as well as skill-building exercises scientifically shown to improve medical symptoms, mood, and well-being. This course includes stress management techniques that have proven effective in promoting health and building resilience among military members and veterans throughout the country. Active, Reserve, National Guard or prior military service is a prerequisite for this course.

This course focuses on the twin goals of doing well in college and being well in life. Learn practical tools to reduce stress, boost resilience and thrive in the presence of challenge and adversity. Learning activities in class engage participating students in experiences of mindful relaxation, personal growth, regulating emotions, positivity, and sharing stories of struggle and strength with peers. Self-reflection, self-expression and self-compassion are balanced with uplifting interactions and deepening connections in an inclusive and affirming group environment.
