Advanced ASL B

Advanced American Sign Language B builds on skills developed in ASL I-IV and Advanced ASL A to enhance students' advanced language skills. In this course, students will develop conversational skills for everyday discussions and informal and formal narratives. Students will enhance their ability to explain increasingly complex ideas to illustrate how things work and why things are the way they are. Students will also analyze ASL stories to boost comprehension and vocabulary.

Amharic VI

Amharic VI is the second part of a four-part intermediate course sequence in Amharic. The course is offered through the Five College Supervised Independent Language Program. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Amharic develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in Ethiopia and to support course work in African Studies.

Adv Swahili/Human Rights Study

This is a course in advanced Swahili speaking, listening, reading and writing. The content of the course focuses on human rights policies in East African countries. Students develop skills in describing and narrating in detail, expressing opinions, giving reasons for opinions, and cross-cultural communication. Students develop vocabulary necessary to discuss economic, political, and social-cultural topics in Swahili.

Wolof V

Wolof V is the first part of a four-part intermediate course sequence in Wolof. The course is offered through the Five College Supervised Independent Language Program. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Wolof develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in West Africa, especially Senegal, and to support course work in African Studies.

Vietnamese V

Vietnamese V is the first part of a four-part intermediate course sequence in Vietnamese. The course is offered through the Five College Supervised Independent Language Program. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Vietnamese develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in Vietnam and to support course work in Asian Studies.

Urdu V

Urdu V is the first part of a four-part intermediate course sequence in Urdu. The course is offered through the Five College Mentored Language Program. The course format includes small group conversation sessions and individual tutorials. Students studying Urdu develop speaking, listening, reading, writing, and cultural etiquette skills needed for study abroad in Pakistan or India and to support course work in South Asian Studies.

Yoruba V

Yoruba V is the first part in a four-part intermediate course sequence in Yoruba. Yoruba is one of the primary languages of Nigeria and also spoken in diaspora communities in Brazil and the Caribbean. The course is offered through the Five College Supervised Independent Language Program. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Yoruba develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in West Africa and to support course work in African and African-Caribbean studies.

Twi V

Twi V is the first in a four-part intermediate course sequence in Twi. The course is offered through the Five College Supervised Independent Language Program. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Twi develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in Ghana and to support course work in African Studies.

Turkish V

Turkish V is the first part of a four-part intermediate course sequence in Turkish. The course is offered through the Five College Mentored Language Program. The course format includes small group conversation sessions and individual tutorials. Students studying Turkish develop speaking, listening, reading, writing, and cultural etiquette skills needed for study abroad in Turkey and to support course work in Middle Eastern Studies.

Thai V

Thai V is the first part of a four-part intermediate course sequence in Thai. The course is offered through the Five College Supervised Independent Language Program. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Thai develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in Thailand and to support course work in Asian Studies.
