Bulgarian V

Bulgarian V is the first part of a four-part intermediate course sequence in Bulgarian. The course is offered through the Five College Supervised Independent Language Program. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Bulgarian develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in Bulgaria and to support course work in European Studies.

Burmese V

Burmese V is the first part of a four-part intermediate course sequence in Burmese. The course is offered through the Five College Supervised Independent Language Program. Students studying Burmese develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in Myanmar (Burma) and to support course work in Southeast Asian Studies.

Bangla/Bengali V

Bangla/Bengali V is the first part of a four-part intermediate course sequence in Bangla. The course is offered through the Five College Supervised Independent Language Program. Students studying Bangla/Bengali develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in Bangladesh and to support course work in South Asian Studies.

Amharic V

Amharic V is the first part of a four-part intermediate course sequence in Amharic. The course is offered through the Five College Supervised Independent Language Program. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Amharic develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in Ethiopia and to support course work in African Studies.

Swahili Senior Research IV

Advanced Swahili Senior Research IV is for students working on an advanced Swahili research project or thesis. Students develop skills in describing and narrating in detail, expressing opinions, giving reasons for opinions, and cross-cultural communication. Students develop vocabulary necessary to discuss and write about their chosen topic in Swahili.

Topics in Advanced Urdu IV

Topics in Advanced Urdu IV focuses on developing advanced reading and speaking skills, expanding vocabulary, and improving the ability to describe/narrate in detail and support opinions. Topics are chosen in consultation with the program director. Students studying Urdu develop speaking, listening, reading, writing, and cultural etiquette skills needed for study abroad in Pakistan or India and to support course work in South Asian Studies.

Wolof IV

Wolof IV is the first part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Wolof. The course is offered through the Five College Supervised Independent Language Program. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Wolof develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in West Africa, especially Senegal, and to support course work in African Studies.

Vietnamese IV

Vietnamese IV is the fourth part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Vietnamese. The course is offered through the Five College Supervised Independent Language Program. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Vietnamese develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in Vietnam and to support course work in Asian Studies.

Urdu IV

Urdu IV is the fourth part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Urdu. The course is offered through the Five College Mentored Language Program. The course format includes small group conversation sessions and individual tutorials. Students studying Urdu develop speaking, listening, reading, writing, and cultural etiquette skills needed for study abroad in Pakistan or India and to support course work in South Asian Studies.
