Behavior is generated by the interplay between hormones and the brain. In this course, human and animal research will be examined to explore how the endocrine and nervous systems interact to control functions such as reproductive behaviors, aggression, and food intake. The course will also examine how the brain modifies hormone levels to cope with changing environmental conditions and stress.

An introduction to the neural basis of behavior. Topics include neuroanatomy, neuron function, the control of hunger, sex, sleep, emotion, drug addiction and memory.

The aim of this course is to introduce students to the reality of how the field of psychology impacts nearly every aspect of our criminal justice system, from crimes to convictions. Specific topics include criminal profiling, interrogations, lie detection, eye-witness testimony, the insanity defense and insights into the criminal mind.

Psycholinguistics (psychology of language) is the study of the cognitive processes enabling humans to acquire, comprehend, and use language. The class will provide an introduction to a variety of topics within the field of Psycholinguistics, including language comprehension, language production, language acquisition, bilingualism, language and the brain, and language and thought.

Cognitive psychology is the branch of psychology concerned with the scientific study of the mental processes involved in perception, attention, memory, knowledge, language, problem solving, reasoning, and decision-making. In short, cg is concerned with the scientific study of the mind and mental processes (Goldstein, 2005). When you finish the class you should be able to understand, evaluate, and do research in cognitive psychology. You will be learning from both a text and primary journal articles.

Research has shown that positive social networks and academic connections increase student retention and student success. This program pairs a freshman/ sophomore mentee with a junior/senior mentor. Students will meet weekly for a faculty-led mentoring session, engage in mentoring activities each week, including social and academic activities, and complete a brief report on your activities each week.
