The selected films will afford students an opportunity to engage with film theory and criticism, and to examine a variety of topics such as the formation of national identity, gender and family dynamics, social inequalities, rural vs.

Advanced Grammar

General view of basic structures of the language: concentration on significant problem areas of grammar. Part of the language-skills sequence for the Portuguese major. Prerequisite: PORTUG 240 or equivalent.

Brazilian Portuguese Study

This is an intermediate language course that focuses on dialectal, grammatical, morphological, and phonological properties of the Portuguese language spoken in Brazil. Students will study the different varieties of Brazilian Portuguese, while developing the four language skills: reading, writing, speaking and listening. This course is considered a bridge-course between the elementary language sequence and more advanced courses in the program.

Continuation of basic skills acquisition: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The rest of the principal structures and vocabulary of Portuguese. Oral participation strongly emphasized. Prerequisite: PORTUG 110 or equivalent.
