A second-semester elementary French course: a continuation of FRENCHST 110 with emphasis on acquiring basic level of proficiency in the language and understanding of the culture of France and the Francophone world. Urdu VIII is the fourth part of a four-part intermediate course sequence in Urdu offered through the Five College Mentored Language Program. The course format includes small group conversation sessions and individual tutorials. Students studying Urdu develop speaking, listening, reading, writing, and cultural etiquette skills needed for study abroad in Pakistan or India and engagement with Urdu-speaking communities, and to support course work in South Asian Studies and other academic, vocational, and personal goals.

Turkish VIII is the fourth part of a four-part intermediate course sequence in Turkish offered through the Five College Mentored Language Program. The course format includes small group conversation sessions and individual tutorials. Students studying Turkish develop speaking, listening, reading, writing, and cultural etiquette skills needed for study abroad in Turkey and engagement with Turkish-speaking communities, and to support course work in Middle Eastern Studies and other academic, vocational, and personal goals.

Swahili VIII is the fourth part of a four-part intermediate course sequence in Swahili (Kiswahili) offered through the Five College Mentored Language Program. The course format includes small group conversation sessions and individual tutorials. Students studying Swahili develop speaking, listening, reading, writing, and cultural etiquette skills needed for study abroad in East Africa (especially Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda) and engagement with Swahili-speaking communities, and to support course work in African Studies and other academic, vocational, and personal goals.
