Independent projects by special contract. Credit, 1-6.

In mask making the student will be introduced to the art and craft of making mask using the products thermoplastic, liquid latex and other principle mediums. The student will have the unique experience to choose their own projects. During the semester, the students will create a plaster face cast, learn to sculpt in "wet clay," form the mask in thermoplastic, and prepare the mask to be worn while learning the basic elements of design: line, proportion, balance, mass.

In this course, students will examine African and African American theater produced in the 20th and 21st century and written or translated into English. We will observe the differences and similarities between work across geographic and temporal locations and conduct dramaturgical research to support concept statements that could facilitate professional productions of these works.
