ST- Let's Make Some Noise!

In sound and music, there is raw material all around us...birds chirping in the trees, the steady grind of an industrial AC unit, the reverberance in a stairwell. With the power of digital sound editing, all of these ingredients, and many more, can be manipulated, shaped, and transformed into music. Let's spend the semester listening to our surroundings and collecting recordings from the "field" in order to make sonic creations -- all without using a single note of traditional music.

ST-Topics/Costume Technology

This class is designed for students with some stitching experience who are interested in exploring the various skills that make up the world of costume technology for theater. Repeatable for credit, this is primarily a hands-on technical class, alternately focusing on construction methods, textile identification, fabric dyeing and painting techniques, pattern-making through draping on a dress form and flat-patterning, tailoring, fitting and pattern alteration, and other costuming craft work, such as millinery and mask-making.

Stage Management

Discover the art and craft of stage management through class work, observation and production exploration. Learn practical techniques for managing theatrical productions in preparation for academic and professional production responsibility.

Lighting Design

Studio. Study of "seeing": concentration on the articulation of visual pictures developed from a dramatic text and on research; functions and qualities of light and the development of lighting concepts. Practical application of design through specific crew assignments on Department productions.

Scenic Design

Students will explore set/scenic design for live performance in a studio format. What is a performance space? We will investigate the idea of performance spaces where theatre can happen, as well as create some of our own. The main objective is to introduce the language, tools, and technical skills involved in the discipline of scenic design and to lay the foundation for further study while empowering students to actively engage as set designers in productions on campus after taking the course.
