The Psychology IE course will focus on the content areas of Psychology as they relate to real-world problems. We will consider areas of Psychology where our majors may be employed after graduation. An Honors introduction to ethics through issues of medicine and health care. Topics include abortion, treatment of impaired infants, euthanasia, physician-assisted suicide, truth-telling, medical experimentation on human beings and on animals, and the allocation of scarce medical resources. This course will cover questions about the place of mind in a world of matter; the nature of free will, and whether it is so much as possible; a variety of questions about knowledge, including self-knowledge; and a number of moral questions, including questions about our responsibility to others less fortunate than ourselves. Readings will be primarily from contemporary philosophers. (Gen.Ed. AL)

While Many of Du Bois' contemporaries theorized about race, Du Bois applied sociological principles to identify meaningful solutions to the problems associated with racism. This course is about why Du Bois's work matters today. We will be covering the work of Du Bois in conversation with contemporary scholars from the era of Reconstruction to Black Lives Matter.
