Public Speaking

This course blends theory and practice in exploring public speaking. The theory of speech composition, presentation, and evaluation is discussed in relation to public discourse, civic engagement, and the ethics of persuasion. Students also practice and develop their own skills by giving several formal and impromptu speeches. Requirements include the ability to pre-record speeches.

This honors thesis seminar offers a multidisciplinary, political economy approach to investigating the role of human generation and consumption of energy in contemporary politics and society. Readings are drawn from the fields of history, international politics, political economy, political science, geography, anthropology, and development studies as they pertain to energy infrastructure and energy sources, including coal, oil, natural gas, hydropower, and renewables.

W/E-Education in Context

Community service-learning course designed for teacher candidates in the Bridges to the Future program. The course is embedded in the community teacher model of teacher education. Teacher candidates will, through course work, practice and reflection, immerse themselves in the communities within and beyond the classroom. Course serves to connect new teachers with the Human Service agencies already established in the community, simultaneously developing their understandings of the relationship of schools to communities, and understandings of teachers?

S-Teaching and Learning in GIS

Students in this course will learn about the pedagogy behind GIS curriculum and
instruction through practice as lab assistants in an introductory GIS course. Alongside readings establishing evidence-based practices in GIS instruction, students will work to identify barriers and frustrations for GIS learners, and ways to overcome them.
