This course combines instruction in research techniques in a variety of Humanistic and Social Science disciplines, and hands-on experience with those techniques, with substantive materials focusing on the long struggle of minority populations for full participation in American cultural and public life. ST-TeachingArt/Theory-Practice

This course is for students interested in teaching children using art as a vehicle for learning and self-expression. During class time we will explore various methods, materials, and procedures for teaching art to children in grades K-6. Class meetings will include discussions and exploration of contemporary issues within the field of Art Education and an in-depth exploration of the lesson planning process. Additionally, we will explore theoretical, practical and creative approaches for teaching visual arts to elementary school children.

ST- Metamorphic Petrology

This course is focused on metamorphic processes and the interpretation of metamorphic rocks. Topics will include: phase equilibrium (and disequilibrium) in mineral systems, metamorphic reactions, calculation of P-T conditions and P-T-time paths, the tectonic context of metamorphic rocks, metamorphic fluids, and deformation-metamorphism interactions. The course is intended for graduate students and upper-level undergraduates.
