Prerequisites: One course in STATISTC.

Advanced sculpture

This course is designed for the student who already has a practice in making sculpture or in art making with a desire to incorporate sculptural materials. Materials used will depend mostly on the work the student is already engaged in making. There will also be demonstration of use and technique in some traditional materials to help expand the students' options in construction of objects. These materials include wood, metal, plaster, and found object. Students will be expected to work independently and follow through with research relative to their specific interests.

Collage

Collage has been often defined as a modern practice, yet examples of this art form go as far back as the invention of paper. From 10th century Japanese calligraphers to Picasso and Braque to memorabilia hobbyists, there is no end to the possibilities this mixing of media and surfaces can employ. This course examines the possibilities of disrupted meaning, non linear design, and theoretical conception involved with this art form. We will explore the many facets of this multi layered approach to art making through slide shows, readings, and research.
