In this course we will explore the challenges of a changing climate and investigate frameworks and tools to understand and address climate issues that impact people and their communities. Some cities have begun to incorporate climate change into their planning, taking action to confront their climate threats, reduce their vulnerability to climate-related impacts, and build resilience to extreme events.

Intro Problem Solving W/Comp

An introductory course in problem solving, using the programming language Java. Focuses on the fundamental concepts of problem solving and on computer implementation. Satisfactory completion is a prerequisite for all higher-level computer science courses. Use of computer required. Prerequisite: high school algebra and basic math skills (R1). (Gen.Ed. R2)

ST-Italian-American Experience

This course examines the history and cultural production of Italians in the United States from 1870 to today. The first part of the course discusses the conditions that spurred mass emigration from Italy and led to the constitution of Italian-Americans as the fourth largest ethnic group in the United States today. Analyzing literary texts, films, and historical documents, this course follows the evolution of Italian-American culture and identity, both collective and personal.

S-Color & Proportion/2D Design

In a studio format, students will practice hand-eye coordination as well as develop a deeper understanding of color as a tool of design. Students will learn through freehand figure drawing of live models with and without fabrics on them, as well as through manipulation of colored paper, as inspired by the teachings of designer, artist, and master pedagogue Josef Albers. While the course is taught in the context of theatrical design, the 2-D in the title refers to the notion of designers composing images.

ST- Sex & the Supreme Court

This course focuses on the U.S. Supreme Court and its rulings regarding sex and sexuality. What has the Court said about what type of sexual activity or sexual relationships are constitutionally protected and how and why has this changed over time? What is or should be the Court?s role in weighing in on these most intimate issues? We will examine several hot button issues such as reproduction (sterilization/contraception/abortion); marriage (polygamous/interracial/same sex); pornography/obscenity; sodomy; sexual assault on college campuses; and sex education in public schools.
