FYS- Exploring Public Health

This seminar is for first-year students who are interested in studying Public Health and related policy, politics, and innovation within Public Health. Participants will gain an introductory knowledge of the U.S. Healthcare System in which Public Health operates. The seminar will tie in key issues pertaining to the 2016 presidential election and how it impacts current state and federal Public Health policies.

FYS-Parenting/Animal Kingdom

Let's explore the family lives of wildlife across the animal kingdom. In this course, we will discover why some parents care for their young while others leave them to fend for themselves. Sea turtles lay hundreds of eggs but never meet their young, while songbirds build complicated nests and feed hungry chicks as they grow. By the end of this class, you will understand the different parenting strategies in wildlife, why they developed, and why they continue to persist.

FYS- Working/Cause:HlthcrNonPr

Many of us want to work in a job where we feel like we are making a difference. Non-profits in the United States and worldwide are dedicated to well-known causes, such as the American Heart Association, or gain popular attention through viral cause-marketing such as the ice bucket challenge for ALS. Non-profits can range from small volunteer run efforts with a very narrow focus, to international networks that wield immense power to enact change. Either way, they must follow best practices to maintain their status and effectiveness.
