Studies some aspects of discrete mathematics. Topics include sets, functions, elementary probability, induction proofs, and recurrence relations.

Contemporary writers have used constraints to spur creativity in many ways: in this course, we will consider a memoir written in Facebook lists; a poem inscribed in a ?chemical alphabet? within a strand of DNA; a novel written in only questions and one written without the letter E; an essay collection written as a collage of found texts; and many other literary and multimedia works that use constraints to break new ground.

This course introduces foundational abstract data types and algorithms. The main focus is on the use of data structures in designing and developing programs to solve problems in a variety of domains. Specific topics include lists, sets, maps, graphs, stacks, queues, searching, and sorting. (Gen Ed R2)

Prerequisites: COMPSCI 121 (or equivalent experience) and Basic Math Skills (R1). This course is not a substitute for COMPSCI 187. If unsure of whether this course or COMPSCI 187 is more appropriate, contact instructor.

What insights do films with end-of-the-world scenarios, dystopian futures, and post-apocalyptic themes offer into the cultural moment that produces them? From alien invasions and planetary collisions to cataclysmic war and totalitarian dystopias, from the zombie apocalypse and the rise of machines, to human extinction and the end of civilization, what do these films tell us about contemporary realities? How do they speak to our anxieties and fears about the future as well as our hopes and aspirations? In what ways do these films pose and explore questions of the "human"?

Bangla/Bengali III is the third part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Bangla. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Bangla/Bengali develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in Bangladesh and to support course work in South Asian Studies.

Advanced programming techniques in the Java language focusing on abstract data types. Specific topics include linked structures, recursive structures and algorithms, tree-based structures, and hash tables. Elementary techniques of software engineering, including documentation, coding style, basic testing principles, and informal reasoning about correctness. Weekly programming assignments, discussion section exercises, and multiple exams.
