Memory and Media

How do we make memories? How do we forget? What does amnesia actually look like? Are eyewitnesses the most trustworthy source? Everyone forms lay theories about the ways we remember and the kinds of information we remember. These theories, which may or may not be accurate, manifest in the media from tips on improving your memory in the news to amnesia plot lines in soap operas. In this class, we'll discuss what the research says about how memory works and draw connections to the media we encounter in our everyday lives.
