Exploring Amazonia

In this course students will become intimately and extensively knowledgeable about Amazonia, a region that hosts the world's largest contiguous tropical rainforest remaining on Earth -- and four other major vegetation types. We will explore what we think we know about the Amazon region, discover what others know, and consider what no one knows, looking for kinds of information that policy-makers and farmers have to work with in making policy and land use decisions.

ST- Moroccan Arabic III

This course develops speaking and listening skills in colloquial Moroccan Arabic. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions with a native speaker and a final evaluation by an outside evaluator. The focus is on practical everyday conversation and listening comprehension. Students studying Moroccan Arabic develop skills needed for study abroad in Morocco and to support course work in Middle Eastern and International Studies. In order to enroll in this course, students must have completed Moroccan I-II or the equivalent.

ST-Cantonese/Mandarin Spkrs IV

Cantonese for Mandarin Speakers IV is the fourth part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Spoken Cantonese for Mandarin Speakers. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Cantonese develop speaking and listening skills needed to live and work in a Cantonese-speaking environment.

ST- Dutch III

Dutch III is the third part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Dutch. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Dutch develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in the Netherlands and to support course work in European Studies.

ST- Burmese III

Burmese III is the third part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Burmese. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Burmese develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in Myanmar (Burma) and to support course work in Southeast Asian Studies.

ST- Tibetan IV

Modern Tibetan IV is the fourth part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Modern Tibetan. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Modern Tibetan develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in Tibet or Tibetan-speaking areas and to support course work in Asian Studies or Buddhist Studies.

ST- Sinhala II

Sinhala iI is the second part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Sinhala. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Thai develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in Sri Lanka and to support course work in South Asian Studies.

ST- Danish V

Danish V is an intermediate-level course for students who have completed Danish I-IV or the equivalent. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Danish develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in Denmark and to support course work in European Studies.

ST- Khmer III

Khmer III is the third part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Khmer. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Khmer develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in Cambodia and to support course work in Asian Studies.
