S-Smnr On Language

Doctoral level seminar is designed to examine a range of sociocultural theoretical perspectives on the study of language. Goals will be to develop familiarity with several perspectives, to consider their similarities and differences and their usefulness in researching language in educational settings, and to practice applying one or more in the analysis of language data.

Int Equitation I

Lab. The balance seat positions at all basic paces with and without stirrups. Jumping skills developed over low fences and gymnastics. Basic school figures and theory as it pertains to horsemanship, dressage, and combined training. Prerequisite: previous formal instruction.

Int Equitation II

The riders secure in their position at the basic paces. School figures, work over fences including gymnastics, stadium, and cross country type fences. Development of skills and knowledge of horsemanship, specifically dressage and jumping.

Geomorphology

Earth surface processes and resulting landforms. Includes physical and chemical weathering, hillslope, fluvial, eolian, and coastal processes and their relationships to landforms. Field trips by arrangement. Prerequisites: at least 12 credits in geology, physical geography, or related fields; first-year courses in physics and chemistry recommended.

Grad Sem/Environmental Health

This course examines current advances in environmental health science via lectures from UMass faculty with research programs related to environmental health, UMass PhD students in the EHS program, as well as visiting scholars. Seminar topics will change from week to week and will include topics such as pollution, exposure assessments, mechanistic toxicology, environmental health policy, environmental epidemiology, and others.

Adv Cell Biology

Structure and function of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. Properties of membranes and cellular transport systems, energy transduction, assembly and morphogenesis of organelles, organization of nucleus and cytoskeleton. Experimental approaches emphasized.
