Theory Of Numbers

Basic properties of the positive integers including congruence arithmetic, the theory of prime numbers, quadratic reciprocity, and continued fractions. Theory applied to develop algorithms and computational techniques of computer science and to cryptography. To help learn these materials, students will be assigned computational projects using computer algebra software. Prerequisite: MATH 233 and 235. Math 300 or COMPSCI 250 as a co-requisite is not absolutely necessary but highly recommended.

P- Artist Residency Project

Students will assist the resident artist in the execution of a large-scale installation, to be exhibited at the UMCA at the end of the residency. During the 4-week residency period, students will work closely in coordination with the resident artist across all aspects of the project, including materials gathering, fabrication, installation, and documentation.

Designed to engage students in: 1. Fundamental questions, ideas and methods of analysis, 2. Application of these methods to real world problems, 3. Critical thinking through inquiry, problem-solving and analysis and 4. Awareness of how race, ethnicity and social "class" impact health and wellness. This course provides the base of knowledge required to understand the role of diet and exercise in optimizing athletic performance AND overall health.
