Economic Geography

Economic Geography is the study of how humans struggle to live on our planet. The course examines economic activities in space, place, and location through three lens: globalization, unequal development, and sustainability. Students will learn not just the "why" of economics, but how "where" complicates understanding the economy.

Igneous Petrology

Examination of the genesis and evolution of magmas in various tectonic environments of the Earth, approached through theoretically and experimentally derived phase equilibria of liquid/crystal systems, isotopic relationships, trace and rare earth element geochemistry, and case studies of naturally occurring igneous systems. Prerequisite: Geo-Sci 321.

InorgContmnts/Soil,Water,Sdmnt

Physical, chemical, and biological factors affecting the fate and transport of inorganic contaminants (including heavy metals) in soil, water and sediment. Sources, chemistry, pedogenic and geochemical behavior of these contaminants and methods used for their analysis. Risk assessment, and remediation technologies, options, and goals. Prerequisites: CHEM 111 & 112, knowledge of college algebra, basic soil science, and transition metal chemistry, or permission of instructor.

Public Health Communications

The public health community - individuals and organizations - have an important role to play in shaping how populations receive and gain access to accurate health information. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention defines health communication as "the and use of communication strategies to inform and influence individual and community decisions that enhance health." This class will provide an introduction to the issues and methods associated with effective communication of health related information.
