S- Business of Soccer

This course explores soccer around the world and its impact on local, national and the global economy. Students will study how the modern game has evolved at both club and national levels, paying specific attention to the financial impact of the major European leagues and the economic implications of European football competitions such as the UEFA Champions league. A comparison will be made of the European league model of promotion and regulation vs. the U.S. model currently used in MLS.

ST- Contemp Folklore Studies

This course serves as an introduction to folklore studies with a special focus on its intersection with social and cultural theory. The word "folklore" usually refers to traditional expressive practices, ranging from verbal arts (such as proverbs and legends) to material culture (such as costumes and handicrafts) to customs (such as rituals and festivals). But as this class demonstrates, the study of folklore has changed over the years. We now recognize that all communities, not just traditional ones, have folklore.

Plant Cell Biology

This course will cover the cell biological aspects of several plant cellular processes, including cytokinesis, cell expansion, tip growth, cell-to-cell communication, and intracellular protein sorting. An emphasis will be made on experimental approaches used to understand these processes at the molecular level. A discussion of model organisms and cell types will be included.

Health Impact Assessment

Health impact assessment (HIA) is a powerful methodology that can be used to promote health and health equity in policies and decision-making. This course will introduce students to HIA methodology and how HIAs can be utilized to promote health in all policies. Students will learn the specific steps of HIA and how it has been applied in the U.S. and internationally. Key concepts of social determinants of health and health equity will be discussed as underlying tenets inherent in the HIA process.

ST-Law & Public Policy

Examines ways in which law, especially constitutional law pronounced by the courts, influences the adoption, legal and political strategies, and public perception of major public policy issues. Several short topics, such as same-sex marriage, teaching of evolution in public schools, and Internment of Japanese-Americans during WWII. Major topics include reproductive freedom, right to refuse medical treatment, and end-of-life healthcare decisions.

Nursing Internship

Practicum prepares students for beginning professional nursing practice. Students expected to synthesize knowledge and skills to manage and advocate for groups of clients in various settings. Concurrent with NURSING 490P. Prerequisite: successful completion of all Level I, II, and III nursing courses.
