FYS -Epigenetics:GenesWork/You

This seminar is based on gene expression being influenced by our choices- what we eat, physical activity, environment, and overall lifestyle. It is fascinating how we can choose to live well by modifying our intake or activities and in turn controlling the expression of genes that are directly related to obesity, diabetes, CVD, and cancer.

Seeing Ourselves

In this course, students will learn to evaluate and interpret images by considering their social and cultural function and examining their potential to create meaning and communicate ideas. Students will consider how they currently create and consume images, and thereby explore the influence of images on their lives.

S-Same-Sex Marriage

This course homes in on the nexus of political contestation and legal
interventions over the question of same-sex marriage. Drawing on legal
studies, sociology, anthropology, comparative religion, history and other
interdisciplinary scholarship, we will investigate how same-sex marriage
fits into post-Cold War American political and legal culture, with an
emphasis on the social movements and political entities which have forced
the issue via traditional activism, media spectacle and lawfare.
